The Elastos project experienced significant progress and advancements during May. One notable achievement was the collaboration with Alibaba Cloud, a prominent player in the cloud computing industry. The partnership between Elastos and Alibaba Cloud was discussed in a webinar that explored the potential use cases and synergies between the two projects.

Another significant event that took place in May was the conclusion of the CR Council Election. The election resulted in the selection of a new group of Elastos evangelists who will play a crucial role in shaping the project’s future direction. These individuals will contribute their expertise and ideas to guide the development and adoption of Elastos.

One fascinating event was the further funding by the Elastos Foundation (EF) of Runtime into the NFT marketplace Elacity. Elastos Runtime, initially outlined in the Elastos whitepaper, is a crucial component that needs to be added to the project. Its reintroduction in April marked a significant milestone in completing the envisioned tech stack of Elastos.

The CR Secretariat had significant responsibilities in collecting information from CR Council candidates, maintaining and updating the CR website, and providing recommendations for revisions to the CR Whitepaper.

These recent achievements showcase the ongoing efforts of the Elastos team to drive adoption, enhance governance, and further strengthen their technological foundation. The project is making significant strides toward its goals, and these developments represent necessary steps forward in the Elastos ecosystem. 

Proposal #97 Elastos Elavation: A new growth team providing dedicated Business Development, Ecosystem Strategy and Marketing

Team Elavation passed a comprehensive Proposal in late September of 2022 to reinvigorate the Marketing, Business Development, and Growth within the Elastos ecosystem. This initiative aimed to drive technology adoption, raise awareness of the Elastos ecosystem, attract new users, develop new products and collaborations, and secure investments for the platform’s growth. The Elavation team promised to address deficiencies in leadership, operational excellence, and trust to work towards the self-sufficiency of core teams. Ultimately, the group aimed to elevate Elastos as a leading Web3 technology and contribute to developing a secure and data-owned internet. 

In April, Team Elavation scored one of the most significant Elastos partnerships with Alibaba in the project’s history. On May 31st, Alibaba Cloud and Elastos had a webinar to discuss their strategic collaboration. 

The partnership between Alibaba Cloud and Elastos aims to bridge the gap between Web2 and Web3 by leveraging their strengths and technologies. As a leading cloud computing and technology company, Alibaba Cloud brings its expertise in business and financial aspects and a robust ecosystem through its accelerator program. On the other hand, Elastos provides a comprehensive Web3 tech stack and solutions for commercial and business-scale deployment.

From a technical standpoint on Alibaba’s end, the collaboration focuses on cooperating with the best blockchain solutions for Web2 customers. By integrating Elastos’ decentralized identity (DID), digital rights management (DRM), and wallet solutions, Alibaba can help Web2 enterprises transition into the Web3 space. This partnership enables Web2 businesses to benefit from the decentralized and secure nature of Web3 technologies.

Additionally, Elastos offers one-click deployment solutions for validator nodes, storage nodes, and carrier nodes, which are crucial components of Web3 infrastructure. Alibaba’s involvement can help address bandwidth issues and ensure scalability for these solutions, making them suitable for commercial use. Follow this step-by-step tutorial on how to deploy an Elastos node using Alibaba Cloud.

Alibaba Cloud and Elastos are in the exploration phase of incorporating Elastos DID with Alibaba’s eKYC (electronic Know Your Customer) service. This potential integration would enable a seamless connection between the real world and the Web3 environment, allowing for regulatory compliance and tokenizing real-world assets. Combining Elastos’ zero-knowledge proof technology with Alibaba’s proven and mature eKYC service would aim to create a robust “Gateway to Web3” partnership.

Both Alibaba Cloud and Elastos mutually benefit from this collaboration. Alibaba Cloud gains access to Elastos’ advanced Web3 technologies, enabling it to offer its customers innovative solutions and strengthen its ecosystem. Proposal #112 ElastOS Runtime – reinstating the missing pillar with Elacity

In early April, Sash from Elacity turned back the clock to bring back an essential piece of the Elastos tech stack into the fold- Runtime. His Proposal detailed how Elacity plans to develop a WebAssembly (WASM) based Runtime for Elastos, enabling the integration of DRM and NFTs while addressing the missing component outlined in the 2018 Whitepaper. By incorporating WASM as an open-source core infrastructure, Elacity aims to establish a foundation for enterprise solutions. Sash is looking to foster the traditional web’s evolution and unlock new possibilities for digital asset ownership, trading, and wealth generation.

In early May, Sash tweeted an update that they have finalized a contract with EF for their Runtime core infrastructure, with special thanks to Sunny Feng Han and Chen Rong for their dedicated support. This contract signifies a major milestone for Elacity. Additionally, the team has been working on integrating DRM (Digital Rights Management) with NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) for video content. They have developed custom smart contracts on the ESC testnet, focusing on improving user experience, efficiency, and backend features to drive marketplace growth.

CR Council Election- 2023 

The Cyber Republic Council election for the 2023/2024 term in the Elastos project has concluded, marking an important milestone in its governance. The newly elected Council members, including fresh faces and returning members, will play a crucial role in shaping the future of Elastos. They will be responsible for screening suggestions, voting on proposals, supporting community projects, and representing the interests of the Elastos community.

Among the newly elected members is Bocheng Zhang, who leads the Elastos Fusion team and focuses on technical services for Web3 enthusiasts. The Gelaxy Team, known for their work on the mainchain-sidechain architecture and consensus mechanism, has also secured a seat on the Council. Community contributors and moderators Hwedini and 4HM3D, along with other returning and new members, have been elected for their expertise and dedication.

The transition period commenced following the election’s conclusion on May 30th and is set to conclude on June 13th. During this time, the newly elected members will be given approximately 13 days to configure their nodes before formally joining the CR Council. They will officially take office at block height 1,447,331 after a transition period estimated to conclude by June 13th, 2023.

Work Performed by the Secretariat

The Secretariat has been actively involved in various essential tasks to support the Council and ensure its smooth functioning of Cyber Republic Consensus (CRC). Firstly, the Digerati Team conducted a comprehensive survey to gather valuable insights from the Council candidates, allowing for a better understanding of their perspectives and priorities. Additionally, the Secretariat diligently worked on rectifying any issues identified in the CR whitepaper, making necessary revisions, and subsequently submitted a Suggestion for an updated version. 

The Secretariat also thoroughly examined the CR website, meticulously reviewing all the content to ensure its accuracy and relevance, ensuring that the website reflects the most up-to-date and reliable information regarding the CR. Through these efforts, the Secretariat has played a vital role in maintaining transparency, improving documentation, and enhancing the overall effectiveness of the CRC.
